The fact that 100 people came out to discuss 'the place of art in the university today' on March 26th is a powerful testament to the 'value of art' and it's current status in the public consciousness.

Art is an integral component of a liberal arts education. Students need not become proficient in the history of art, but minimally, they should be afforded an art-friendly environment in which to study and work.

Visual literacy is a valuable tool that reaps dividends over a lifetime. Those who would exchange a work of public art for an unrelated purpose disrespect the intent of the donor and diminish the quality of life for students while they are on campus and in the future.

Hello,

I have been celebrating Sputnik's 50th anniversary since January 1 of this year by detecting and tracking 1,957 satellites (1/5 of the total satellite population). To date, I have successfully detected 1,650 satellites and expect to reach the goal well ahead of the December 31 deadline.

I have detected satellites as close as 200km and as far as 196,000km and have logged all my observations on my website. Interestign observations about each of the satellites are also available there as well as images of the satellites themselves amongst their stellar backgrounds.

Congratulations are in order for Director Amy Schlegel, the staff of the Tufts University Art Gallery and everyone at Tufts who contributed their time and energy to the Kabakovs' Center of Cosmic Energy project. This has been a massive undertaking which has come together as planned despite a brief and hectic installation timeframe.

If the act of constructing the Communication with the Cosmos Building can bring you closer to Cosmic Energy itself, then everyone involved with this exhibition can expect greater intuition, confidence and creativity for years to come.

The onsite trailer awakens the passerby to his/her surrounding. Requiring him/her to acknowledge his/her looking process. It is an effective way to activate the growing passivity of the American populous.
